Ron Dennis signals McLaren's return to US motorsport
« on: September 30, 2011, 04:22:01 PM »

But gives nothing away about which series McLaren will target.
However as this story from gpweek.com explains it is more than likely they will return to founder Bruce Mclaren's passion, sportscar racing, in the US

For McLaren, the Singapore Grand Prix weekend also marked the launch of McLaren
Automotive Asia. Ron Dennis, executive chairman of McLaren Automotive and the McLaren Group,  hosted a press conference detailing the brand’s global expansion plans during which he went into detail on projected sales, profits, and markets.

But the highlight of the session came when theformer McLaren team principal announced plans to launch the McLaren brand in US motorsport. “You will see some form of McLaren presence in some form of motorsport in America,” Ron Dennis
said, although he refused to be drawn on the details.

Given the characteristics of the MP4-12C, speculation is rife that McLaren – who were once known for their CanAm successes – will field a team in the American Le Mans Series. IndyCar is also a possibility, although the series is currently struggling thanks to a series of longrunning organisational battles and internecine warfare.

The ALMS may be problematic, too. Now that the FIA have gotten their poisonous claws into the Le Mans series, they want to do away with Petit Le Mans and make Sebring a WEC-only race. IMSA may cut its ties to the ACO and drop the Le Mans name. Hopefully, we'll know more about that by the end of the Petit Le Mans this week-end.

I know it's not really a natural fit, but they could be entering IndyCar as an aerokit supplier.

If F1 teams keep cozying up with IndyCar, it brings hope that there will once again be F1 racing at Indy  :D

Nascar!  They are supplying the ECU's next year for Nascar's first fuel injected engines.  Seriously though, it can only be somewhere they can race the MP4-12c, can't see Mclaren building an Indycar aero kit.

Oh Jeri, it's cruel to get Cossie's hopes up like that.  :DD

IMSA/ALMS just announced that they are staying with the ACO for at least one more season. I'd love to see McLaren back with a GT or even an LMP1.

LMP1 would require too much investment I think, but I wouldn't be surprised to see them in GT. GT2 is shaping up to be a war with Porsche, Ferrari, Aston, Lotus, Mercedes and Corvette already in.
