F1- Fisichella must work harder - Briatore
« on: January 29, 2007, 08:35:14 PM »
Giancarlo Fisichella must work harder if he wants to emulate Fernando Alonso's achievements as Renault's leading pilot.

That is the claim of Flavio Briatore, who has retained the service of the experienced Roman this year despite his winning of just two races compared with Alonso's fourteen throughout 2005 and 2006.

"He has the talent to win," managing director Briatore insisted, "but he must concentrate, and think about how to work better with the team.

"You have to work very hard to be number one in your job."

In the Benetton era, Briatore dumped Fisichella at the end of 2001, claiming that he was not serious enough to drive for a top team.

He is today a "better" driver, 56-year-old Flavio acknowledged, but he said Fisichella still takes a laid-back approach to grand prix racing.

"(He needs to think) about working better with the engineers and getting more upset with himself when things go wrong -- not only 'ok, it is just another race, let's forget it'," Briatore said.

"Nobody gives you anything, you need to take it."

example of Fisi being to laid back

Mark Twain once opined, "it's easier to con someone than to convince them they've been conned."
