1995 Qualifying
« on: February 02, 2007, 05:03:31 PM »
Right, does anybody remember this or did I dream it?

In 1995 around about October time, I'm not sure what track it was or which driver's were involved but there was a qualifying session where three drivers got exactly the same fastest times, yep EXACTLY the same times.

OK, can you tell me who was involved and what track it was at? Or am I a few sandwiches short of a picnic!?!

Thanks
Neil.P

It was 1997 at the European GP. A dramatic Qualifying session saw the fastest three cars all with the same lap time....

1. Jacques Villeneuve 1m 21.072s
2 .Michael Schumacher 1m 21.072s
3. Heinz-Harald Frentzen 1m 21.072s

The rules state that the drivers will be on the grid in the order the lap times were achieved.

On a different time just 0.058s behind this trio is the Arrows of World Champion Damon Hill.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for posting dare

Stig, I'm not gonna fall out with you, this is just a bit of fun. To be honest it takes a lot to get my goat up. Please take ALL my posts with a pinch of salt!

Anyway, I'll tell you why I thought it was 1995 when it must of been a different exciting moment.

I was trekking in Nepal and we was staying in a town just relaxing getting ready for our next trek!

So my idea of relaxing is hopping from Bar to Bar, went in to one place and on the telly the f1 race/qualifying was just about to start. So we settled down and started to watch, after a certain amount of time something bizarre happened. Me and my mate was saying 'bloody hell I bet Murray's going absolutely ballistic back on English TV'

So, second question of the day is: Can anybody remember an incident around the time of October '95 that would have had Murray Frothing at the mouth?

Thanks
Neil.P

NeilP:

1955: Moss claims first Grand Prix victory
Stirling Moss has won the British Grand Prix at the Aintree track near Liverpool - the first time an Englishman has triumphed in the race.
Another British driver, Mike Hawthorn, finished in sixth place.

London-born Moss, 25, held off a stiff challenge from his Mercedes-Benz team mate, world champion Juan Manuel Fangio.

Fangio had posted the second-fastest time after Moss during the warm-ups and led for the first couple of laps of the race but was overtaken by Moss on the third.

The Argentine driver gained the lead again on the 18th lap but by lap 26 Moss was in front once more.

He kept first place for the rest of the 90 laps in spite of a strong last-lap challenge by Fangio at Tatts Corner.

The two silver Mercedes crossed the line almost together.

Rapid progression

However, the lack of personal rivalry between the drivers was made plain by Moss in his winner's speech.

Moss said Fangio could have taken the race if he had wished but, being a great sportsman, had allowed Moss to achieve his long-held ambition of winning the British Grand Prix.

But given the history of racing in his family it was inevitable that sooner or later Stirling Moss would win a Grand Prix.

During the 1920s his father, Alfred, a dentist, took part in races including the Indianapolis 500.

His mother, Aileen, also took part in rallies and won the Ladies Experts Trials in 1936.

At the age of 18 Stirling Moss sold many of his possessions to buy his first racing car - a Cooper - in which he won 11 of his first 15 races.

He progressed rapidly through Formula Three and Formula Two to compete in F1 races.

However, his strong sense of patriotism has kept him largely in British cars and it was not until last year he accepted an offer to join the German Mercedes-Benz team

Could that be it?
Murray would have really been motormouth for that.

All books from loft back down.......Ear-ache!

Murray: And Hill congratulates Schumacher. They're not bosom buddies, but they're not far off!
Hill was actually criticising Schumacher for heavy-handed driving tactics after the 1995 Belgian GP.

Was this it i was still going on 1955 for some reason?

No, not 1955. I'm talking about 1995 :good:

OK I've narrowed the races down to either the Pacific Grand Prix or the Japanese Grand Prix!
