Rookie quickest in Valencia

FORMULA 1 rookie Lewis Hamilton clocked the fastestv testing time overnight in his first test since he wrecked his McLaren at high speed in Valencia last week.

The 22-year-old Briton completed 120 laps at the same circuit, clocking a best time of 1min 11.120sec.

Ferrari driver Kimi Raikkonen was second fastest with a time of 1min 11.847sec.

McLaren said it was focused on aerodynamic testing and set-up work with the new MP4-22 car, with Hamilton completing a full race distance.

The team's Spanish test driver, Pedro de la Rosa, was sidelined shortly before the end of the session by an engine failure.

However, the team said the engine was a Mercedes-Benz unit that had already covered more than 1100km for double world champion Fernando Alonso before De la Rosa added a further 200km.
