Williams' AT&T sponsorship in doubt
« on: January 03, 2012, 02:02:27 PM »
Not a real shocker is it,5 points won't exactly have the sponsors
lining up will it

While no official announcement has been made, it is believed that Williams have parted ways with title sponsor AT&T.

AT&T have sponsored Williams since 2007, but at the turn of the year all of the company's branding was removed from the Williams website.

Reports suggest that the sponsorship agreement was due to end in December and was not renewed. Williams are said to have wanted to extend the partnership and even offered a deal at a reduced rate but that the telecommunications company was not interested.

Should this be the case, it marks a substantial blow for the team who endured a tough 2011, finishing ninth in the Constructors' Championship with a miserly five points.

Mark Twain once opined, "it's easier to con someone than to convince them they've been conned."

There is a lot going on at Grove with Head stepping down and a new engine manufacturer I'll be surprised if they come out of the box fighting.

Williams have taken all references to AT&T as title sponsor off their website, as of Jan 2nd.

According to Joe Saward, the new title sponsor is likely to be QNB, Qatar National Bank or QTEL, Qatar's telecom company. Williams has been working with a number of companies in Qatar and the government of Qatar recently.

According to PortalF1 on twitter today - "Qatar's national telecomms firm Qtel and a Brazilian-based telecomms firm Embratel have both been linked as title sponsors for Williams"

I think Embratel sponsors Senna so I guess the driver question is still wide open.

I really hope Williams get it sorted, and their car as well, I'd love to see them at the front again, or near it.
An aircraft landing is just a controlled crash.
