Sutil to stand trial over Lux 'attack'
« on: January 13, 2012, 03:14:22 PM »
Right,I don't know how many people I've stabbed in the neck
while trying to pour a drink on them.Maybe that's reason he's driveless

Adrian Sutil will stand trial in a German court later this month after officially being charged with causing grievous bodily harm.

The charge relates to an incident in April last year when Sutil allegedly attacked Eric Lux, the co-owner of Luxembourg Investment Company Genii and the Lotus F1 team.

The then-Force India driver was out celebrating Lewis Hamilton's Chinese GP victory at the M1NT club in Shanghai when the incident happened.

Sutil reportedly stabbed Lux in the neck with a glass with the latter requiring 24 stitches. According to German newspaper FAZ, the doctor who performed the procedure told the businessman that the severe cut was just millimetres away from an important facial nerve.

Sutil subsequently apologised, saying the injury was completely unintentional as he was trying to pour his drink over Lux's head, however, the Munich District Courthas opted to go ahead with proceedings.

Sutil will face the courts later this month and could be sentenced to a year in prison if found guilty.

Hamilton is reportedly likely to be called as a witness.

Mark Twain once opined, "it's easier to con someone than to convince them they've been conned."

This could lead to a completely new definition of "Pay Driver." Sutil could end up driving for Lotus to work off his fine.  ;)

Eric Lux obviously doesn't have a sense of humour. Fancy taking court action just because he was nearly killed by being 'glassed' in the neck. A clear over-reaction  :tease:

I can see how it could have been an accident (alcohol has major effects on co-ordination, especially on people who aren't used to being drunk)... ...but under the circumstances I'm not convinced that even that scenario would lead to a "not guilty" verdict (since throwing a drink is itself technically assault, at least in the UK).
