Ferdinand Alexander Porsche Dies
« on: April 06, 2012, 06:18:07 PM »
Ferdinand Alexander 'Butzi' Porsche has died at the age of 76. He was the grandson of Ferdinand Porsche and the designer of the original 911. The iconic car was designed in 1962. 10 years later, when the company became a corporation, he lest to start Porsche Design.

In describing his philosophy of design, he once said, "Design must be functional and functionality has to be translated visually into aesthetics, without gags that have to be explained first. A product that is coherent in form requires no adornment. It is enhanced by the purity of its form. Good design should be honest."

R.I.P., Herr Porsche, and well done, sir!

He also was the co-designer of one of the most beautiful race cars ever, IMO, the 904 GTS. His partner on that project was Gerhard Schroeder, who later designed the 917.
