That's Princess Juliana International Airport, on the island of Sint Maartin in the Netherlands Antilles. The island is so small & rugged, there's really nowhere else to put the runway.

Yeah, not much margin for error.  You'd think they'd at the very least close that part of the beach and just have a covered walkway for people to get from one side to the other.
