I managed to get away from life for an hour yesterday and whipped up this video. This is at the entrance to Seymour Narrows, a famous part of the inland passage up the coast of British Columbia. Smack-dab in the middle used to be Ripple Rock which was just below the surface of the water and a lot of ships sank here until they literally blew it out of the water in 1958 which to this day is still the largest non-nuclear and deliberate explosion in North America.
Here's the video..(iPad owners will need to cut-and-paste this address into their browser to view this) "vimeo.com/41871423". The video is in 1080p format which means you need a powerful computer (or an iPad hehehe) to view this. If the video plays poorly just click on the "HD" text in the lower-right corner of the window to turn the Hd off.
If you want more info on this part of my world (10 minute drive from my house) there's a wiki piece here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seymour_NarrowsHere's a video of the actual explosion. The vantage point in this vid from 1958 is only a few hundred feet from where I was flying. One thing to keep in mind is that the entrance to the narrows is actually about 1km across so that should give you an idea of the size of the detonation when it goes off!
