Turbos May Be On Hold

The German Auto Motor und Sport is reporting that a number of F1 teams want to push back the conversion to turbo 6 poppers. The switch is currently scheduled for the 2014 season.

There are reports that the development costs of the engines are skyrocketing. The engines will also be much heavier than the current V8 racing engines.

What is all this old nonsense about GP2 cars rivaling F1, the pole in both Bahrain and Spain for GP2 was between 8 and 10 seconds behind the pole of F1. It's only the newbie teams who would not look out of place in GP2.

I guess there's a balance to be struck between extra cost of the big boys engines verses the potential underperfomance from the independent supplier. Cosworth started out supplying a third of the grid, then some teams made strategic decisions to hitch their wagons to one of the big boys making future development impossible for Cosworth.

Strikes me that we may see quite a few teams looking to try out Craig pollock's Pure engine if he can deliver a power plant at an affordable price, but how many will really have to commit to run Pure, taking a chance on not scoring points?
