Misano renamed to honour Marco Simoncelli
« on: June 12, 2012, 10:27:34 AM »

Circuit pays homage to local lad Marco, who died so tragically last year.

Marco lived less than five miles away from the circuit in his hometown of Cattolica.
He will now be linked to the Misano MotoGP race in the same way Gilles is always remembered at the Canadian GP.  :good:

Nice. I hope it lasts. Phoenix used to have 2 Indycar races named after dead racers, The Bobby Ball 200 and the Jimmy Bryan 150. They soon became named after their sponsors, then when the split happened they ceased to exist. Lots of other races and tracks went the same way. Racing is terrible at honoring it's past. It rarely lasts. Of course, it's not just racing, anybody remember the Crosby National Pro-Am golf tournament?

A similar thing that happened to the Rex Mays 300 in Milwaukee.

It's a fine and fitting tribute to Simoncelli. Like Lonny says, I hope it lasts.
