Maldonado's win makes Venezuela 21st GP winning country
« on: May 16, 2012, 01:09:09 PM »

Pastor also becomes only 104th F1 winner in 62 years.   :swoon:

Thanks to Pastor Maldonado, Venezuela has become the 21st country to celebrate victory in a Formula 1 race. The success in Barcelona on Sunday also marked the first South American win since Rubens Barrichello did the honours at Monza in 2009.

In 62 years of the Formula One World Championship, adding your name to the list of Grand Prix winners is no mean feat – and history proves it. Maldonado has become the 104th F1 winner in what was the series’ 863rd race.

List of Grand Prix wins by driver nationality:

   1. United Kingdom – 220 wins, 19 drivers
   2. Germany – 126 wins, 7 drivers
   3. Brazil – 101 wins, 6 drivers
   4. France – 79 wins, 12 drivers
   5. Finland – 44 wins, 4 drivers
   6. Italy - 43 wins, 15 drivers
   7. Austria – 41 wins, 3 drivers
   8. Argentina – 38 wins, 3 drivers
   9. Australia – 33 wins, 3 drivers
   10. United States – 33 wins, 15 drivers
   11. Spain – 28 wins, 1 driver
   12. Canada – 17 wins, 2 drivers
 =13 New Zealand – 12 wins, 2 drivers
 =13 Sweden – 12 wins, 3 drivers
   15. Belgium – 11 wins, 2 drivers
   16. South Africa – 10 wins, 1 driver
 =17 Colombia – 7 wins, 1 driver
 =17 Switzerland – 7 wins, 2 drivers
   19. Mexico – 2 wins, 1 driver
 =20 Poland – 1 win, 1 driver
 =20 Venezuela – 1 win, 1 driver

The last new country to win an F1 Grand Prix was Poland, with the now absent Robert Kubica having triumphed for BMW in the 2008 Canadian Grand Prix.

Great pick John. :good: :good:

I think Kobayashi, Petrov & Narain are only drivers left in the current grid to put a record in that list.

Well given the shape of this season, who know what Kobayashi can achieve, and its interesing to see that many japanese drivers making it to F1, but never to the top of the podium, given the racing heritage Japan has.

And for the rest of the two, until and unless you annihilate the rest of the grid, I see no reason they will take part in this very distinguished list.
Keep running the fast cars, you will be never out of girls
