I just think that if Honda has given Aguri-san anything close to the budget that they wasted on the factory team, he'd have given them wins and maybe even a shot at a WCC.

I really think you have rose tinted horn rims on Cos, Super A only scored 4 championship points in their entire 3 year existence, and the chassis/engine they used to get those 4 points in 07 was the 06 Honda that scored 86 points and got them fourth place in the WCC. Sure in 07 it seemed Aguri had the upper hand, but in reality even with shed loads of money they would only realisticaly have got into mid-field, all the big boys had moved up a notch on the 06 chassis.

Honda's investment could have brought them the result, only if they were a bit patient. They abandoned a team, and a genius named Ross Brawn, named it Brawn GP, and almost from the verge of extinction it becomes the world constructor champion, following year engulfed by Mercedes. Only if Honda stayed a bit longer.

For Super Aguri, I always felt they were tremendously lacking budget, and it showed them in their racing performance. I am not questioning their spirit, but I always thought they were not well prepared and that really dented their credibility.

The philosophy in Japan is to minimize the individual and maximize the committee mentality. Honda could not convince themselves that Aguri-san was better than a team of engineers.

That's why the team would never have done well under Honda. Toyota had the same problem. Given proper funding, Super Aguri could have been what Braun later became.

Well said Lonny, when Honda was making engines they really nailed it. specially with McLaren, but it comes down to running a team, they fell short, somehow, in some strange manner..
