1,400 HP, 1,300 lb Open Wheel Racer
« on: August 10, 2012, 01:50:12 PM »
Gale Banks and his company Banks Power will run a 1,400-hp, 1,301 lb-ft methanol-fueled vehicle up the course at the Pikes Peak Hill Climb. The car is entered by Paul Dallenbach and Leonard Arnold of Dallenbach Racing. The car has a Wells-Coyote chassis, a 442 cid SBC and Lola gearbox.

Sadly, the 12.42 mile course is now completely paved.

No work of art, but it's bound to be quick.  :good:

In a find kind of a way, I really like it. It has what they say a raw beauty written all over it...

Cripes Cos, if they turn that machine all red they'll have to get Baron von Richthofen in as the pilot.  :D

And here it is going off the road with a stuck throttle.  For the record, Dallenbach survived as did the spectators lining the course.

Freaking scary!

Who would have thought that a 1,400 hp race car wouldn't be stopped by plastic snow fence?

Dallenbach said the car is a complete write-off, but that he is alright, but really sore.

Here is the wing's eye view of Dallenbach's VERY short run (I think he went for about 10 seconds).  At :17 you see his head tilt over as if he is trying to see what is wrong, then just heads straight off the road).
