Ferrari puts the boot into DRS
« on: September 13, 2012, 12:38:31 PM »

By using foot operated system not button on wheel, says Giorgio Piola.  ;)

Now I bet you thought this was about another whine from the boys in red.  :D

Ferrari is using a clever foot-activated switch to trigger the drag-shedding 'DRS' system in 2012, it has emerged. Germany's Auto Motor und Sport said drivers for most other teams trigger the rear wing flap with a button on the steering wheel.

But renowned F1 technical illustrator Giorgio Piola has learned that, when Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa are between corners and therefore not braking, their left foots can trigger 'DRS' with a switch to the left of the brake pedal.

When they want to stop the car, their left foot is therefore automatically taken off the 'DRS' pedal - therefore returning the wing to its normal position - when they apply the brake

Just failing to understand the reason to put a third pedal in the already cramped space. And also what possible benefit can you get from a pedal, while not using the hand. Everybody knows where you have to use it, when you have to use it, and when you will loose it, so put it in the leg?

You got other things to design and use, that Mclaren is getting invincible, better work to beat that car..

Not me John, I knew it was to be yet another ground breaking innovation for Ferrari.  ;)

One less button on an already over crowded wheel. I think it would be interesting to limit how much stuff can be placed on the wheel. Don't ban anything, let the teams choose what they want to use, just only allow x number of controls.
