ALMS-Grand Am Merger Announcement
« on: September 05, 2012, 12:47:12 PM »
The rumor mill has been running full blast about a possible merger between the American Le Mans Series (ALMS) and the NASCAR Grand Am. The rumors started with a report on Speed.com last Saturday.

It looks like something is about to pop. I just received the following e-mail from the ALMS:

Quote
Wednesday marks an historic day for sports car fans. Join us at 10 a.m. ET on ALMS.com for an important announcement regarding the sport's future in North America...

In theory, a merger should be good for sports car racing here in the States. I just hope that whatever emerges will be a lot more Le Mans and a lot less NASCAR.

The same announcement just went up on the Grand Am website. Whatever it is, it will be broadcast on ALMS.com. Speed TV and grand-am.com. It will be at 10:00 EDT (15:00 London time)

It looks very, very bad. The announcement is being made in Daytona Beach, not Brazelton. The word on the grapevine is that NASCAR is going to buy out Panoz. It looks like American fans will have to say good-bye to state-of-the-art P1 cars. All we will have is 1960's tech, ugly, tube frame spec racers.  :'(
