Schumi throws in towel for the second time
« on: October 04, 2012, 09:07:16 AM »

By announcing retirement from F1 in Suzuka paddock.

Already confirmed that he will be replaced at Mercedes by Lewis Hamilton, Michael Schumacher has begun the Suzuka weekend by announcing his second retirement. 21 years after his debut at Spa, the seven-time World Champion will walk away from the sport following three disappointing seasons with the silver arrows.

I'm not really a big Schumi fan. He's a great driver. Not in a class with the likes of Fangio, Moss, Clark and Stewart, still one of the greatest. Sadly, he was also one of the dirtiest drivers of all time. The cheap shot was always his fall back position. I just wish he could have hung up his helmet own his own, and not have been tossed out.

I respect his achievements and would not have minded seeing him drive for Sauber (purely to see how he would be in a less corporate team) but I also think he was far from being an outright sensational racer.  He had a lot of things fall into place to enable him to win and end up as successful as he was.

All that remains now is for Niki to jump into the fray and pile on like I anticipate this thread will become.

I for one will miss him more the second time around than the first. Such a shame that he wasn't able to at least get on the podium one last time in his 3 years with Merc.
Kimi's back! Future double WDC.

I was praying to see him on the top step once more.

He still might, there are still 6 races to finish this year.  ;)

Goodbye master!

Count me in brothers...

I wasn't born in the era of Jim Clark, Juan Manual Fangio, Sir Sterling Moss or Sir Jackie Stewart, I never had the chance to see the battle of titan between Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost, but I have seen is that this guy Micheal Schumacher making himself a legend, and his battles with Damon Hill, Villeneuve, Hakkinen and at last with Fernando Alonso. I have seen his mischievous so called dirty moves, along with the races where he was absolutely mesmerizing

It is sad that he could not replicate his earlier success with his new team..

Sacked from Merc - retired from F1.  He could have chosen a few race seats if he wanted them, and I include Ferrari in that.  He chose not to.  Doesn't want to go out like Rubens.

He has not shown his dirty side this time around as much as did in his hayday at Ferarri.
I admired his ability but disliked how he would pull dirty crap and get away with it due to his stature as Micheal Shumacher.
I will not miss him.
