For the word cat gut, I can say that it is a material usually used in surgical procedure, initially it was produced from cat's gut (Hence the name), but nowadays they have realized that its better to produce from sheep, instead of cat. But they are sticking with the name they were first given..

Brings up the old memories when I used to be in my surgery wards..
