First Look at the E21
« on: January 28, 2013, 07:28:14 PM »
I'm watching the debut of the new Lotus E21. The platypus lives! It still has the bend in the nose. They said the the panel to cover it up would weigh a few gram, so they left it off.

No way they could have just not had the tilted bit in it and had a flat nose like McLaren then!?  Disappointing to see Lotus have stuck with it really.

Another FIA c*ck up, ::) the regs allow teams to put a cosmetic fix on the cars but there is no compulsion.

It appears both the added weight (minimal to most minds but not to F1 tech heads) and the cost (carbon fibre's not a cheap material even to better off mid fielders) will keep stepped conks on the grid.  ::)

Perhaps we should be asking just who was responsible for drafting the section of the regs covering step noses?  - It's obviously the same person, or persons, who allow Adrian the scope to drive a coach and horses through the regs every year.  :D

If I may be so bold, I'd say that Adrian Newey drives around the regs, not through them, and a good bit of horsemanship it is too. God help us if no one questions rules or pushes boundaries.

Back to the stepped nose, I agree it's hardly pretty, but I admire that Lotus haven't been swayed by cosmetics. That's maybe where McLaren have been going wrong...

Well said that man!  :good: ....... apart from the Macca bit that is.  :P

My comment was tongue in cheek, but if step noses are really deemed ugly and undesirable why not outlaw them officially? This half hearted approach from the governing body seems plain daft.  ::)

Oh, and James Allison is quoted by Planetf1.com as saying Lotus will only add a modesty panel to their E21 if they "find one that develops downforce"...   ;) :D

Lotus apparently made a multi million dollar sponsor deal with a energy drink company Burn, and they said it will be flame styled livery? Where is it? I was so much looking forward for that.  :'(

I think Roman and Kimi had flames on their race suits, but only on the lower half of their legs.. might be worth checking that. I agree woulda been nice to see flames on the cars!

I Think there is some kinda lame flame effect going on at the front end, the Burn logos seem to be only on the front wings and the inner sections of the wing are in the Burn corporate colours of yellow and red.

Perhaps Coca Cola have not stumped up enough cash to have more of the livery painted in their flaming colours.

The team expect to challenge for regular wins with this car apparently.  I have my doubts.  It looks tidy enough, but for once I agree with Raikkonen when he said that they'll struggle to do any better than they did in 2012.
