Margaret Thatcher Dies
« on: April 08, 2013, 02:08:22 PM »
Sad news, in my opinion she was the best post-war Prime Minister we have had. This lady stood up for Great Britain.

NPR is carrying BBC World Service's coverage of it right now.

Sad news indeed Ian. Mrs Thatcher had more balls than most of the other PM's all put together! Agree or disagree with her policies at the time, she was a leader, she said it how it was and never lost an election.

She will not have a state funeral but will be accorded the same status as Princess Diana and the Queen Mother. The ceremony, with full military honours, will take place at London's St Paul's Cathedral.

She was a leader, and I give her credit for becoming prime minister, especially in view of her background (I did a research project on Thatcher for GCSE).

I disagree wholeheartedly with a whole range of policies which she implemented, not least mass privatisation, neo-liberalism (with Reagan), and her appalling policy on Europe, much of which sadly still influences contemporary UK government.

She was a great character though, and that was her great strength in my view.

I won't go into 'Her appalling policy on Europe' Irisado as my feelings there are well known. A little snippet on the news just made me laugh though, a member of her Government was being interviewed just now and was asked if we would ever see another Margaret Thatcher, his reply was..."I would certainly hope so." he then indicated with his arm towards the Houses of Parliament and said, "None of that lot would be fit enough to be her butler."

:DD :DD  That would be a comment worthy of her.  I liked her dry sarcasm and ability to slap down just about anybody who doubted her.

Now that she is dead does that mean we still have to pay that ridiculous thing they call poll/council tax?

Afraid so Alonsofan, but Council tax isn't as bad as the darned poll tax was.

Forget the politics celebrate the life of a
