my pc wouldn't boot this morning.I had a face dos root fat
kernel message on it.I hooked up my other pc and goggled
the message and didn't get much help except to unplug
all usb devices.Did and pc started but I wondered has anyone ever
had or heard of this problem?

All seems ok for now

No sorry mate never had that happen so can't offer any advice, though I did have a total shut-down of Windows 7 on a laptop. Never did get to the bottom of it and never recovered anything, even after several more experienced people than me attempted fixes.

Sold the laptop cheap to a local geek who took it on as a project - never heard back if he got it up and running. :DntKnw:

Now I stick to big box desktops, much easier to repair or replace cheaply, - and a lot easier to thump in frustration without lasting effects.  ;)

It sounds like your PC was trying to boot from an external device rather than the master hard drive. This is why you was advised to remove all USB devices and it worked.

Your BIOS might be set to boot from external devices first and if there is none present boot from the master hard drive. You could check this and change the settings but probably best if you're just mindful not to have anything plugged into your PC when you switch it on.
