Williams Switch to Mercedes Power in 2014
« on: May 30, 2013, 03:26:24 PM »
Williams will use Mercedes Formula One engines in the turbo era after signing a “long-term” deal with the Stuttgart manufacturer.

The deal is logical given Toto Wolff’s relationship with both parties, as shareholder of Williams and the boss of Mercedes motorsport.

How much of a influence was Sussie Wolff in this deal? When Toto went to Mercedes, I think he said now he have to be very cautious in Dinner with wife, being a developmental driver in a rival team, I now they have once again became partner on business ground, I am sure their dinner's will be much more relaxed. :)

Zilch is my guess. It's 'Simples', as the animated meerkat puppet in car insurance ads says; Merc needs another decent partner to both valdate it's engine performance and contribute to the costs of producing the power trains, Williams wants to pay less than the money Renault is asking and still get a good engine partner.

Now would Ferrari really be comfortable letting Williams - a multi world championship team- get it's hands on a full spec Maranello engine?
........... I don't think so.  :D

So really nothing at all to do with Mr & Mrs Wolff's domestic or dining arrangements I'm sure. :D

Agreed, I'm sure that such matters may well come up chez Wolff from time to time, but they're hardly going to influence such key decisions.

It should, on paper, be a boost for Williams, as Mercedes currently have the best engine in Formula 1, and if this translates to their new turbo, it should at least ensure that they receive a boost at one end of the car.  Now if they could just sort out the chassis design....
