The other complication in this is the lack of FIA monitoring at the test. Reports suggest that no one from, or sanctioned by, the FIA was present at the test, surely a requirement for all F1 tests?  :DntKnw:

Off they go tomorrow.  Geez, I thought Vintly would be taking bets on the outcome by now  ;)

I'm going with Pirelli getting the worst spanking.  Mercedes are too valuable to the FIA and FOM.  Oh wait, it's an impartial independent tribunal, isn't it.  Yeah, right... |-( |-(

I think Pirelli will walkaway as Bernie himself insisted that Pirelli dis nothing wrong, so I am sure the tribunal will also no find Bernie as wrong. I think Ross Brawn knew all the consequences of such tests, so he deliberately conducted the test, so that Mercedes is penalized, he will shoulder the blame, make a exit, making Paddy Lowe as the technical director, and giving Mercedes 1000km of precious data of 2014 compound.

Suggesting that Brawn was looking for a way to retire without looking like a quitter?  Not bad.

I doubt the FIA will fine Mercedes much.  The company will walk away from the sport if it becomes too costly to operate, and multi million euro fines fit that criteria.

Ha! Funnily enough Scott I just came to this post AFTER reviewing your original question - how much is it gonna cost Merc / Pirelli, thinking 'We should all guess!'

You're way ahead of me.

• Merc - £0
• Pirelli - £0
• New restrictions and checks on communications between FIA, teams, tyre supplier.

For me the charge should lie with the FIA for not having proper control over their rules. I'm guessing Merc (Ross Brawn) will argue a good enough defence, say they've simply exploited a loophole, back to you FIA.

 :good:

Agreed 100%

FIA can't afford to lose Mercedes or Pirelli. Any significant fine, and both would be ready to walk.

I've started a thread on the results of the tribunal here for all those who are interested.
