Will Peter Sauber have to sell F1 team?
« on: November 26, 2013, 01:47:33 PM »
Russian deal shaky? PDVSA money lost to Lotus? Can team survive?  :DntKnw:
The following sentences appeared in a longer article about which drivers are in which team for next year, on Master.motorsport.com today, and appears to show Peter and Monisha have started some sort of future planning about a sale of the team should funds totally run out.  :swoon:

Until now, despite Nico Hulkenberg's talent, Pastor Maldonado has held the key to unlocking those vacancies, thanks to his EUR 40 million in PDVSA backing.
He has been in talks with Sauber, whose financial struggles in 2013 have been well documented, but ultimately the Swiss team has missed out on the crucial millions.
With Sauber's Sergey Sirotkin-linked Russian rescue deal now in doubt, the Maldonado blow could be costly. Germany's Auto Motor und Sport said co-owners Peter Sauber and Monisha Kaltenborn may have to sell the Hinwil based team.

"Plan C is a sale, and reputable investors from the USA are said to be interested," said the report.

At this point, I don't think Suaber owes anything to F1, his team or his employees.  He has given as much as a man can give to his passion.

I hope things work out well for Sauber the man, and Sauber the team.  He's certainly earned it.  They've certainly earned it.

It's a good organisation, and I'm sure the pieces are in place for them to become great.  It would be a shame if no one can take advantage of that.

I'm astonished that he hasn't been able to build a complete budget with Swiss backing.  The media praise them when they make a few points and punish them when they don't, but guaranteed every race they take part in there is at least a half to full page article about their chances before the race and another after.

There was some rumbling about a. Swiss conglomerate buying them when BMW had them for sale, so we'll see what happens this time.  But you 're right Jeri, Sauber has earned his right to comfortable retirement, I hope he gets it.

I have to say, i like and admire Peter.  He has kept his team afloat through thick and thin, and owes F1 nothing, in fact why he doesn't just walk away is a mystery as he has put so much into it.  Hopefully some of the multi national companies in his home country see sense and invest in or sponsor this team, to see a team who consistently punch above their weight struggle so bad financially is a travesty

There is no doubt ever, the man of Peter Sauber stature requires any further recognition, but I think the man himself want to keep those people who helped to get him there, and the legacy of his name. If not at least give those men & women a chance to have bread & butter for their families. Sauber showed that how badly they effected this year with the Pirelli's 2013 spec, and after the regulation change they have just showed how beautifully well crafted their package was. And it has been same almost for the whole time for Sauber team or at least for the time I have been watching it.

I will always pray that Sauber team survive and prosper.

I really hope that he doesn't have to sell the team.  Sauber does a very good job on limited resources, and is a well respected talent spotter in the paddock.  We need people like him involved with running a Formula 1 team.

13 people like Peter Sauber (or Frank Williams... or Ron Dennis... or Ross Brawn...) would be perfect for F1.

People who have a passion for racing, yet have that personal touch about running their own team like a family they look out for.  That's what F1 was built on, and it's these men who continue to push F1 into the future.  Not CVC.  Not giant corporate sponsors.  Not the FIA.

I love that people like Branson, Mallya and Mateschitz are willing to put their money into the sport to be part of Bernie's Paddock Club.  But at the end of the day, for them it's not a passion, it's a hobby that's interesting until something else comes along.

What I'd love to see is more people who see F1 like Ron Dennis and Enzo Ferrari did... as Frank Williams does... a place to create a NEW brand, and build it into something that goes beyond the sport.

I agree with all of that Jeri :).

You've hit the nail on the head regarding one of the things that is most wrong with contemporary Formula 1.  There are too few people involved with the sport these days who are primarily in it for the love of racing as Gian Carlo Minardi used to say.

At least there are still a few around though, and they've survived for longer than all these so called super manufacturer teams (Jaguar, Honda, BMW, and Toyota) which ought to say something.
