Mateschitz - no more 'Bull in F1?
« on: March 24, 2014, 07:02:15 PM »
http://www.bbc.com/sport/0/formula-one/26721387

Dietrich Mateschitz has a bit of a laundry list of things that are bugging him in F1, and has implied he'll take Red Bull money out of the sport.

I can't really blame him for jumping on the quiet-turbo bandwagon.  Seems to be a very common complaint.  However, if he had a problem with the sound of turbos he should have brought it up before the suppliers spent their money providing a unit that doesn't match his vision of F1.  (Perhaps he did).

I can blame him for getting angry that a ruling went against the team.  The FIA explained it quite clearly, and RBR took a chance (the sport is all about taking chances, I can't say I blame them) and lost.  The FIA has been trying to get them ever since the flexible front wing embarassment.

Where would we be if McLaren, Sauber, or Enstone quit every time the FIA ruled against them?

Dietrich Mateschitz and Red Bull bring a lot to the sport, so the FIA would do well to heed them.  At the same time, Mateschitz must realize it is a sport, and that there are rules, and even when they're unfair, even when the officials make a mistake, you need to get past that look forward to the next race.

Complaining after the stable door was left open springs to mind ;).  I'm not overly impressed.

If Vettel had won the race by 30 seconds, and Renault were the leaders in engine development, I very double that he'd have said a word about the engines.

It's not the first time Dieter has threatened to leave F1, and I doubt it'll be the last.  Nothing but sour grapes (maybe that's what they put in that putrid concoction he sells).

I hope they do walk, and that McLaren, Sauber, Enstone and rest go with them. Let's see how many people show up to watch FIA apparatchiks run about. Maybe then motorsport can be rid of them once and for all.

I think if this is truly Bernie's last year, it will also be the last of the 'Divide & Conquer' strategy between the FOM / FIA & the teams.  I also think that the teams will be on a much stronger footing without Bernie mucking about.  All they will need to do is to become united in their demands (more money for the teams, bring back tracks with fans and more control of the regulation changes).  I know it's a big challenge, but again, with Bernie gone, it will be much easier to keep everyone happy.
