Was Fangio suffering from Stockholm Syndrome
« on: January 18, 2014, 11:04:16 AM »
Certainly I never heard this story before, and I was astounded knowing Fangio lied for Moss (No wonder this man is still in awe about Fangio) and also that horrific crash.

Fangio was an absolutely amazing person. He has always been my all-time favorite driver.  :good:

Definitely not a case of "Stockholm Syndrome".  Fangio simply aligned himself more with Castro than with Batista.  (I assume this was because of his humble origins)
As for talking the kidnappers out of also kidnapping Moss, we only have Fangio's word for it.  But Moss certainly believes it.

Fangio had a wide reputation that he could charm the birds out of the trees. I think this was a case of that in action.

One of my favorite Fangio quotes came when he went to a GP some 20 years after he retired, looked at the cars and said " In my day the tires were skinny and the drivers fat!".  :D
