Haas Pursuing F1
« on: January 16, 2014, 08:12:22 PM »
My initial reaction was, "It'll never happen." But there seems to be some real potential seeing how much pull Gene Haas has in the motorsports world. What do you think?

After the last debacle, I doubt the FIA will look at this favorably.

Just keep Peter Windsor and Ken Anderson as far away from that project as possible.  Haas will have a better go at it, but he better line up long term team sponsorship (McDonalds?  Coke? ...or maybe GoDaddy?) for it before he drops a dime into Bernie's pocket.

Too bad Paul Newman isn't still around, he'd probably jump at that opportunity.

For reasons unknown I have a feeling this will also end up as USGP team

I hope he can pull it off, but I'm not going to get my hopes up.

It won't happen in my opinion.  He tried Formula 1 in 1985/86.  Haas Beatrice Lola was the team with a Ford Turbo engine (eventually).  They did score a couple of good finishes (Jones and Tambay both finished in the points once I think, but I am going from memory), but the cars were generally not that fast, and reliability was very poor.  I'm still to be convinced that this experience would not have put him of any new attempt, especially since Formula 1 is a lot more expensive now than it was then.

My whoops...I just assumed he was the son of Carl Haas (partner of Newman) - apparently there is no relationship.  Ok, I don't know who this guy is aside from a partner of Tony Stewart, which can't be a good thing.

Different Haas completely. Personally, I like Tony Stewart. He's won in every kind of car he's raced and he isn't afraid to say what he thinks. And he asked AJ's permission to use the number 14 on his cars.

Oops, I totally misread the first post.  I'm sorry.  At least I hope that I gave some of you a bit of interesting history to read if nothing else.

I've never heard of this other guy.  It has US F1 written all over it in terms of probability of success.
