No wrong doing in Schumacher accident probe...
« on: February 17, 2014, 04:48:15 PM »
Well, thank god for that.  As a skier, the last thing I want to see is the resorts blocking off the areas that aren't groomed beside the slopes, where the best skiing is.

The report said that he hit his head 34ft from where the rock was that he hit to cause him to fall.  There are two possibilities from that - either he was wailing down the slope and flew 30ft from where he hit the rock, or the first rock didn't actually cause him to fall, but simply to lose control before he finally fell against the second rock.

I read a report at Autoweek or maybe World Car Fans that said his injury was due in part to his having modified his helmet to fit a Go-Pro to it, thus weakening it.

I have a GoPro, and it comes with a self adhesive base for your helmet to connect the camera.  I can't see why he would bother doing anything else.  I can see if the camera had hit the rock first, it could have been forced through the helmet, but then he would have some head trauma, and all reports I've read said that he didn't have any outward injuries.

I'm sure it will all come out eventually.  Sort of like the Dale Earnhardt accident - it seemed like such a minor hit in the wall, but turned out that it just snapped his neck due to the freak angle.

The manuals for my kids' helmets are quite clear about never sticking anything to them.  Just sticking on a camera or a name tag can change the chemistry of the shell.
