24 years in a company, and then being ousted by the guy whom he was the successor, I think Ron knew the pay-out bill was coming. I have a feeling this may be a strategy by Mclaren to ensure that the rumored talk of "Sony" being the main-sponsor does become fruitful, which Whitemarsh was negotiating. I think Mclaren know Whitemarsh has enough to woo them away, so they are keeping him happy to ensure the sponsorship does come into reality.
