F1 teams lost $500 million in last 3 years
« on: May 26, 2014, 04:22:04 PM »
On it's own Marussia has burnt up $228.6 mill since joining F1.  :swoon:

Now that's less a hobby and more a serious addiction.  :D

Is it time for some sort of financial fair play regulations such as those introduced by EUFA in football (soccer to our colonial cousins), or is it no one else's business if the rich want to pile money into F1?

We all know the way to make a small fortune in motorracing is to start with a large fortune  :D

But seriously, when teams like Ferrari, Mercedes and Red Bull are run as advertising budgets instead of profitable businesses, then it's hard for a profitable business to compete.  Further, Caterham and and Marussia did get suckered into a bait and switch where they were promised a level playing field that never materialised.

Ultimately the sport operates on an ultra fine edge, with the on track action, the designs pushing the rules, and on the ledgers that fund the whole operation.

I assume that like any financial agency that operates on a fine edge, the bubble will burst at some point.  The question is will the pieces be picked up quickly or not.
