Rule Changes for 2015
« on: June 27, 2014, 04:00:36 PM »
The FIA World Motor Sport Council has announced rule changes for 2015. There will be standing restarts. The proboscis monkey noses will go away.

I read an article on this at Crash.net.  The article suggested that the idea may have actually come from the teams themselves.

I can see where this would close up the field and make the race more exciting, but I can also understand why some would argue that building up a sufficient lead to safely stop and hope to hold onto their position.  The voting in the pole is at about 84% against to 16% for this change.

As I understand the extra strain on the drive train from additional standing starts and the fragility of an F1 car, I do not agree with using that as an excuse for not doing it.  They do a lot of practice starts and pit stop practices during a race weekend.  Does this not place added reliability issues on the car?

In reading the articles on this subject, I would offer a slightly different possibility that could produce similarly good racing.  Do a rolling restart the way NASCAR does it, two abreast.  This could be achieved on the lap the Safety Car is to pull in.  No passing until the green is showed.
Life is short - live each day to the fullest.

I think Aerodynamics of an F1 car prohibits them from a rolling start, but I do believe that it will definitely spice up the race. In the past, there have been many times when the race was stopped and restarted, we will be doing it, a bit more regularly  :D
Keep running the fast cars, you will be never out of girls
