Flav's BACK!
« on: July 27, 2014, 10:03:47 AM »
Hehe...popularity working group.  I think they should join a few forums and ask the expert fans.

Once Flav gets his toe in the door, it might be hard to get rid of him again, but on the other hand a character like him is going to be good for F1 anyhow.

I can see the logic in bringing him back. Compared to Flav, Bernie looks good. He is also the only thing in the known universe that makes an uglier noise than a V-6 turbo.

According to an article on Crash.net, Flav's return has little to do with making the sport more popular, but just another way to artificially control the action.  Bernie doesn't get it.  If you want F1 to be more popular, start by opening up the broadcast rights contracts and let us find as much F1 on the internet as possible, don't restrict it and shut down sites that provide more content.

Anyhow, this is an excerpt from the article:

Bernie is clutching at straws again

Guess who's back? Back again. Flav is back. Tell your friends. The real Stout Shady is on his way back into Formula One as a consultant tasked with improving the show and bringing back all of those viewers turned off by a combination of high ticket prices, high TV subscription costs, a lack of access and interaction, and the pesky new engine formula that is the only forward-looking aspect in modern Formula One.

Unfortunately for Flavio Briatore, his remit does not include increasing free-to-air television access with a view to recruiting new fans and bringing back old ones. Nor does it include reducing the race hosting fees so that circuits can charge ticket prices more in line with the man on the street's disposable income. And as for putting archive and highlight footage on the internet, taking advantage of FOM's deal with Tata Communications? He won't be allowed to do that either.

Instead, when Briatore met with team principals in the Hungaroring paddock the agenda focused on success ballast – an idea proposed not by DTM-experienced Toto Wolff as was widely assumed, but by buddy of Bernie Colin Kolles. Other ideas on the table included shorter races and a reduced emphasis on the technical aspects of the sport.

Flavio has had success as a 'mid level' team manager, and in non-f1 business ventures.

He might not be the best person for the job, but he's probably got the best resume.

Even if he's the face of why people don't trust the sport.

He manipulated the worst (proven) cheating scandal of F1 track history. How can he have any place in F1. It's a complete joke!  :fool:

Bernie may not be so happy to have Flav back...seems he would prefer him not, and in fact Flavio may not be invited to the Popularity Group.

Wonderful news is the standing restart will be tossed in the bin.

All depends on the outcome of Bernie's trial in Germany.
If he's cleared he may still be able to force through his thoughts,  :DntKnw:   but even that's not certain  :nono:
- if not it's already agreed and in the regs.   |-(

A popularity group......  They cannot be serious :(.  I sometimes wonder if they might ever just consider reading what the fans say for a change.  Shorter races and ballast certainly are not the answer.
