Dan Gurney Wins Edison-Ford Medal for Innovation

Dan Gurney as been awarded the 2014 Edison-Ford Medal for Innovation. It is a well deserved win. The innovations he brought to motorsport range from the Gurney flap to the full face helmet to spraying champagne on the podium.

He's been my favorite driver/builder/team owner since I was very young. And not just because he proved that tall people could be race drivers. (His height is the reason for the teardrop bubble in the roof above the driver's seat in the Ford GT Mk. IV.)

There are many great names in racing, and while many are celebrated ahead of Gurney... when his name comes up, I do think of him as THE 'top dog' of motorracing. 

He did it all, and there are few people who have contributed more to motorsport.
