.

The Caterham team's thinking is that by missing the last race Marussia, or their successors will not get the money for being 9th or 10th in the championship - depending on what Sauber achieve at the last race.

So Sauber then get 9th and about $65m from FOM and Caterham if they turn up and race will then be 10th. Now because they will have finished in the top ten twice in the last 3 years they will get $30/35m from FOM divvy up.

Well worth trying the crowd funding as like Marussia the administrators won't take the risk of spending the cash to go to Abu Dhabi on a gamble of a huge return. However this raises a very big question, if Caterham gets the FOM money just whose is it?????????????? - the teams or the administrators?  :DntKnw:

Can bernie withhold their money because they missed 2 races?

Certainly if crowdfunding had existed back then, Stoddart would still be running Minardi

I agree Jeri :).

There were a number of Minardi supporters clubs in the UK who would have definitely coughed up the cash.  I'd have paid crowdfunding to keep Minardi going too back then.

Can bernie withhold their money because they missed 2 races?

Ecclestone gave them permission to miss two races, so hopefully not, but with him you can never be sure.

The main thing is that we'll at least have 20 cars for the last race.  That, in my view, is the bare minimum to have a decent F1 race.  By completing the season, and moving up to tenth, they've got a chance of competing as Caterham, or under another name if taken over, in 2015.  I hope that they can keep their place on the grid as a result.

Maybe teams should pay a higher fee to compete so there are only 3 or 4 teams left and the fans abandon the sport because it becomes too dull.

Horner doesn't have any class when he says this shouldn't happen. Maybe if he means to say this shouldn't have to happen but this is the current state of F1
