Alonso to Mclaren, but with who?
« on: November 11, 2014, 09:00:25 AM »
According to this article from AS, Alonso will drive at Mclaren next year (let me temper my surprise), but the announcement won't be made until they decide who will be in the other seat.

Jens has the support of Alonso, who believes he would be better to drive the team forward with his experience.  Mclaren seem to only be nervous about Button's retainer, about ten-fold what Magnussen is on.

I bet Button would be willing to weigh his contract heavily on achievement bonuses if they re-signed him....we will see.  To me, this is a good chance for Button to stay at Mclaren.

Maybe they should hedge their bets put Jens in the car, but keep KMag on and give him seat time in P1 from all the European races. Then if Button is underperforming against Nando badly, by the mid point summer break, put KMag in full time instead.
I'm sure Jens has enough faith in his own ability to sign up to that.  ;)

Alonso and Button would be a great choice I think.  Button's not going to rub Alonso up the wrong way like Hamilton did, and their combined experience would really help getting the chassis up to par and with fine tuning that new Honda engine.  McLaren really need to make this happen in my opinion.

I've nothing too much against Magnussen, but he has not done anything this year to show that he was any better than Perez, and McLaren dropped him after just one season.  Also, Alonso and Button are bound to pull in more sponsors than Alonso and Magnussen, aren't they?

Button is a PR dream, and is a champion, while Alonso, as well as being a double champion, is widely considered still to be the best all round driver in Formula 1.  Surely, this is the way to go?
