Jaguar Land Rover 'Urban Windscreen' The future of sat-nav?
« on: December 16, 2014, 09:47:09 PM »
Jaguar Land Rover has created an amazing virtual 'Urban Windscreen' concept for use in its current lineup. It includes a navigation system with a 'Follow Me' ghost car display, and can eliminate blindspots completely using pillar screens.

Amazing tech, but in another decade or so the cars will all drive themselves anyway.

Mine never, ever, ever will! I look for the lawyers to kill that cure off before it spreads, anyway.

Cool tech, but, again, I think some of it crosses the line of being more of a distraction than an aid.

A lot of 'features' help sell cars without ever really being used.

While I'm not interested in a self driving car, there are plenty of people I wish had one.

I agree with it being a distraction.  My car has a system that when I put on the turn signal on a highway, if a car is approaching from the rear or sitting in my blind spot, I get an audible warning, making me do a proper shoulder check to see what it is.  I rarely need it because I regularly check my mirrors and know what is around me almost all the time.

I like it, it works 100% of the time and it isn't a distraction.

As for the 'follow me' NAV, I would hate it.  I've never been interested in anything that projects on my windshield.  I enjoy driving, and I'm a very observant driver, and I can't even take it when my wipers or defrost don't make my windshield perfectly clean.  The last thing I want is some animation projected in the way of being able to see down the road.
