Looks to me like new head honcho at Ferrari, Marchionne, has mistaken F1 for that funny little regional series -  Indycars.  :D

Easy mistake to make, John. They both use mewing little mini motors that belong in a feeder series.

Until they correct that, the rest is just window dressing.

I think IRL would be smart to just adopt the F1 Formula.  Let F1 teams sell their chassis and motors power units to IRL.

F1 benefits from shared costs.  IRL benefits by forgoing being a spec series AND letting someone else pay for the engineering.

The toes being stepped on belong to FIA, not Bernie, so I don't see him objecting if IRL remains 'regional'.

It'll never happen. The costs would be way too high for most Indy teams.

Not to be left out the young persons stimulant purveyors show us how F1 should go head to head with WEC sports cars.  ::)

They even cheekily tweeted "Way ahead of ya, @ScuderiaFerrari".  - Well they are closer geographically I suppose with a WEC iteration.  :D

I find the RB more appealing because it looks more like an LMT car than an Indycar.

I still don't think F1 should ever have fenders though...

The designs look rather cool; however, they do not look like F1 :nono:

I was reading an article on crash.net about changes NOT coming soon.  I hope not.  Indy cars made some changes, under the guise of safety and the cars definitely do not look good, and in fact, all look the same aside from the livery.

Open wheel racing is by design, dangerous!
This is part of what makes it exciting.  It is not because we want to see huge, deathly crashes.  It has more to do with the skills required of a driver to race his/her car effectively and in close proximity to that fatal crash, coming out on top.

I guess the bottom line for me goes to something much more basic.  A few years ago, the FIA determined that F1 costs were too high and so began a program to reduce costs.  It resulted in smaller engines, design freezes, testing bans and more.  How would any of the changes they are discussing do anything in the financial savings department?  It cannot be cheaper!
Life is short - live each day to the fullest.
