I back the theory behind progressive fines.

People shouldn't have liscence to endanger the public just because they have deep pockets.

Am I the only person who finds it odd that someone would move just so they can speed?

(I did date a guy who wanted to move to Alberta so he could do weekend road trips in Montana when they had no day time speed limit.  But back then Alberta was in oil boom mode, so it was really easy to justify moving out there)

Around here, that's quite possible!   ;)

The only person I heard of who actually moved due to speed was someone who went to Germany to be near the autobahns. In fairness to the guy, he didn't get caught speeding in Britain once, so he did respect the law. He just preferred a more lax law...

(I add that I like the idea of a progressive fine system too. Faster speeds wear out the roads faster, and if people wear the roads out faster, they should contribute for the extra repairs according to ability).

About the only times I've ever considered permanently leaving Appalachia was to move somewhere with more reasonable speed limits. The speed limit here in Ohio is only 70 mph (75 on the Ohio Turnpike).

The speed limit on our motorways is 70mph, the silly thing about it is that stopping distances were calculated years ago when cars had drum brakes and the tyres were nowhere as good as they are now.
An aircraft landing is just a controlled crash.

The Swiss link big speeding fines (I think when they are over 40-50kph above) to your income or net worth.  As a result, the highest ever speeding ticket was issued in Switzerland...though to a Swedish man.
