Monaco Grand Prix - Full to the Brim
« on: March 16, 2015, 02:57:58 PM »
I am not sure what has caused it but the whole of Monaco is full already for the . Everything has sold out and even the Nice Hotels are slim pickings. If anyone is thinking of going you may find that you are stuck with camping or commuting in from Italy - or Bognor Regis if you are really unlucky!
It is all Hotel De Paris's fault for shutting up shop for a refit as it has caused a domino effect. Next year, Ermanno Palace is going to be closed for a refurb so there will be even more pressure on balcony places.

Wonder if we can still get a decent slip in the harbour?

The Carre d'Or One Bedroom Suite at the Metropole was free last time I looked. It is normally only £6500 per night but during the GP weekend it can be had for a tiny £22,000 per night.

There are 19 hotels on booking.com still offering rooms for Monte Carlo that weekend, but the cheapest is just under £7000 for the weekend (assuming you are staying for the whole weekend, arriving on Wednesday and leaving on Monday). It's about £500 more for a sea view... ...though the best way to do it would be to go as a group of 3 sharing one room. Then it's only £7372 (or £2457 each) for 5 nights including parking and breakfast for all 3 of you (£325 extra for a sea view).

I don't know 3 people that could put up with
me for that long.

You only need to find 2 people, Dare - the room takes 3 people and presumably you would be one of them ;)

I have always been a bit do or don't I want to go to the Monaco GP and these costs just push it way out of reach to all but a few. I doubt the view at any point is very good with only a short section of track in view so its the TV for me for this one.

I read someone did the race (just the race) a few years ago for just under £500, with the help of some sleeper trains and knowing where to buy things. They reckoned they could have got it at £400 had they booked travel in advance...
