The rumour mill has Bottas heading to Maranello
« on: May 06, 2015, 08:16:41 PM »
The press is taking this angle based on a statement from Arrivabene indicating he doesn't need Hamilton when he can get a young up-and-coming driver instead.  This plus a whispered rumour that Bottas already has a pre-contract contract with Ferrari means he is talking about Bottas.

I'm playing skeptical on this one.  For one thing I don't see the need to drop Kimi at Ferrari, especially not at this point in the season.  He could very well stay on the podium most of this season if they don't screw up his strategy or pit stops.

I agree that Hamilton will be far too expensive (based on the value he brings) for Ferrari to sign him next year if Mercedes doesn't.  I also hope that Bottas stays with Williams, but they will have to sort out why they are suddenly trailing Ferrari.  Come on Symonds!

Williams have an option on Bottas for 2016, so unless Ferrari can convince Frank to let him go it's unlikely Kimi will be replaced.

However 2017 is a different matter, but it's perhaps a bit early to be handing out contracts for the year after next - an option is probably the most Valtteri will get offered by Marenello.

I'm sure that Ferrari could cover the cost of the option and still come out ahead compared to hiring Lewis (or retaining Kimi)

I know that Williams is getting stronger, but getting some cash from Ferrari should be enough to hire another good driver
