Safety Worker Injured at IMSA Detroit Race
« on: June 01, 2015, 01:25:29 PM »
An unnamed safety worker was injured at the IMSA TUSCC race in Detroit Saturday. IMSA reports that he is in stable condition at a Detroit hospital.

The Belle Isle street circuit has a short run from Start/Finish down to Turn 1. The race was run in a pouring rain. The Brumos GTD Porsche slid into the Turn 1 barrier on the last lap. The Safety Crew pulled out to assist. Several GT car that were still racing to the Finish line lost control and slid into the incident, hitting the Chevy Silverado pick up hard enough to knock it into the air. The 007 Aston Martin, Alex Job Porsche & Park Place Porsche were all involved. James Davidson, in the Aston, was racing for the class win. He and two other track workers were treated & released that the hospital.

We have often talked of the great job that safety crews do at races. This is a reminder that their work is not without hazard.

Best wishes to the crew members involved for a swift & complete recovery.
