Renault edges closer to Lotus buyout
« on: July 29, 2015, 05:01:38 PM »
It seems that 'reliable sources' are reporting that Renault will buy back the team they used to own, probably for the 2016 season.
It makes a lot of sense. Red Bull / Torro Rosso have made it clear that they will look for a new engine supplier at the end of their Renault contract (end of 2016) if not before. Renault want more visibility plus as an Historic team they will get a huge financial boost from FIA.

I realize that the current team is 'Lotus in Name Only', but I've rather liked having a classic F1 name in the sport, even if it's only for the purpose of having a classic F1 name.  I would be sad to see the name go, even though I to refer to the team as 'Enstone'.

As for welcoming Renault back in, considering how often they quit the sport, it's hard to be enthusiastic.

But, the sport needs owners who are willing to spend money, and presumably Renault knows that, so on the whole, I welcome a stronger and healthier Enstone squad.

Renault have a revolving door when it comes to F1, I doubt they will remain in the sport for a great deal of time. A change of board, a run of bad results and off they go.

It has been confirmed that Renault taking over Lotus will be known as Team Okey Koky.
Once you have retired every day is a Saturday!
