Frankly I think they emphasize contact too much. It's just as dangerous to force another car off the outside, but they rarely do anything about that. Cars racing closely are likely to touch.

Vertappen's fault entirely in my book, as has been said he would not have made the corner with his closing speed.

Penalty is fair, Max affected Grosjean's race as well as his own, also if you don't slap the wrists of young guns when they get too impatient then it's just storing up trouble for later on.

We've seen quite a few marginal lunges from Max so far this season, when they come off he's praised as a young genius so it's fair he should cop the reverse treatment when it goes wrong.

I get the impression that penalties are now done more by result than by action, which is the opposite to how they are done in most other series (TUSC is an exception; it reserves the right to penalise for dangerous driving, forcing someone off the track and causing a collision - in order of minimum penalty).

I think Max's actions warranted a penalty, but not necessarily for the reasons the FIA cited.
