COBRA!
« on: July 11, 2015, 12:53:37 PM »
Once upon a time Carroll Shelby built a sports car. When they went racing however they found it was too slow at the top end. So Shelby built a coupe, or actually 6 of them. One of the most beautiful cars ever. And it sounds like this:

Great one, Lonny! Nothing like the sound of a K-code Ford 289.  :yahoo:

Famous story behind the car. The AC body on the Cobra wasn't aerodynamic enough for fast circuits like Daytona & Le Mans. Pete Brock put the chassis/drive train from a wrecked Cobra on the shop floor. He put the seat where he thought it should be, sat driver Ken Miles down in it & handed him a steering wheel. He them drew the the outline of the body on the floor around the chassis and mocked up the body with duct tape & bits of wood, metal & whatever else was at hand.

Those were the days.

Pete Brock was a highly talented designer. He might be the only one who could do it.

Had the pleasure of seeing one in action at a high speed SCCA slalom at PIR, driven by a SCCA national Champion. Very impressive. Have a 1/18TH model with Shelby"s autograph in my collection as well. Love that car.
