All depends on whether the new development is a step in the right direction Scott, Merc upped the power recently and suddenly reliability suffered. In a tight contest this could hurt big time for a manufacturers works team, especially if they are having to fight hard against one or more of their own teams.

What price development then? We get little enough of it as it is. :(

During FP1 in Texas, NBC reported rumors around the paddock that RBR may be about to cut a deal with Honda.

Na, you're joking...Honda need to get their ducks in a row before even thinking about customers beyond Mclaren.

I don't see how Honda would suffer for having twice as much data.  Between 6 cars, they might get a full race distance worth of data in a single weekend.

Just as long as clause 1 in the contract is 'STFU if you don't like the engine'

Honda would suffer by not yet being able to provide a reliable enough engine to know what to do with all that data when it arrives. Once an engine is reasonably reliable, then doubling the data becomes a boon.

I think changing from Renault to Honda is just a momentary step, with intent of selling the team to someone, and avoid the legal issues of abrupt cessation of operations. Otherwise who is stupid enough to go from bad to worse.

Perhaps the sale was proceeding slower than thought?

Honda would also not benefit from Horner telling everyone who will listen what a lump of coal their engine is.

In a press conference during a rain delay at COTA, Bernie said that Ron has veto power over Honda providing the engine to anyone else:

“The honest answer is, at the moment, it would appear that Honda would be happy to give them an engine,” Ecclestone said. “Mr. (Ron) Dennis thinks they shouldn’t.

“He doesn’t want Red Bull. Doesn’t want them. I think he believes they may be competitors. (Dennis) probably didn’t know (about the veto right), so I’m not blaming anybody. I said I’d tell you the facts, they are the facts.”
