RBR will race in 2016
« on: November 13, 2015, 12:59:20 PM »
Still some vagueness about what engine will be powering it, but most rumours point towards a Renault with Red Bull ER systems.  I'm glad for the Daniels, but no impressed the way Horner, Marko and Mateschitz have dealt with the whole episode.

My guess is a re-badged Renault. After all, they already have Infiniti on the side pods.

There was a rumour that Red Bull could use a re-badged Ferrari engine under the auspices of Alfa Romeo: http://www.motorsport.com/f1/news/ferrari-and-red-bull-discussed-alfa-romeo-plan/.  As the article says though, this did not come to fruition.  It's food for thought for the future though.

I cannot see alternative to Renault for Red Bull.  They may take over development of the engine or it could be re-badged in deference to a sponsor, as was the case with customer Renault engines in the late 1990s, but I am sure that whatever it's called it will be a Renault engine.

Ok, so last week it seemed that Mario Illien was going to upgrade Renault's for RBR to run.  Now the latest story has Illien himself denying that move and in fact has Illien linked to Renault for next year.  So perhaps he was meeting with RBR simply to reassure them that Renault's engine program will be under his good and careful care.

Red Bull had better have an engine by next week, else this promise to race won't mean a whole lot...

I'm thinking Bernie has been squeezing Renault's nuts a bit to stay in F1 and supply Red Bull for one more year.

After all Bernie controls the GP2 & GP3 contracts and both use Renault engines. I'm sure one or two other engine suppliers could be persuaded to take over from Renault in the feeder series.  ;)

This might leave World Series by Renault as the only real outlet for the Viry product causing big funding problems for the racing engine division at Renault.

I read Ghosn's long delay in signing, or announcing anything, more as a  protest over Bernie's power play. After all Bernie has been very quiet for the last few weeks about his Red Bull pals staying in F1 - he knows it's a done deal.
