Strange Ferrari pit board message
« on: April 06, 2016, 09:47:24 PM »
The FIA thinks Ferrari may have had a coded message on their pit board:

3.2-LFS6-P1

I have to admit I'm confused. Anyone got any idea on whether this is a setting notation, advice to be 3.2 seconds faster for 6 laps to get into the fight for the lead, or a reminder of Kimi's return plane ticket number?

6-P1 might be car 6 (Nico) in P1

It is an interesting message.
There are several possibilities, I suppose.

What will Ferrari say, and will it make sense of it?

But surely only radio comms were stopped, pit boards have always been used.

Charlie Whiting  has ruled no foul. The message dealt with a problem with Seb's Standard Electronics Control Unit due to the red flag.

The whole affair makes me wonder - will the officials also be monitoring hand signals from pit to driver?

But surely only radio comms were stopped, pit boards have always been used.

Pit boards and radio communications are under the same rules regarding which topics can and cannot be discussed. Radios and pit boards both remain allowed, provided only permitted topics are discussed.

Hand signals - and in fact all methods of pit-to-driver communication - are already also covered. (Driver-to-pit is unrestricted).
