Brilliant  :good: :good:

Just could not stop the tears rolling, felt like a normal racing day, no one knew he would be no more within a minute or two. Same with Senna, and most recently Jules Bianchi.

My salute to these people, who died while doing what they loved doing, while doing them gave us a spectacle to behold, inspire us to dream, and made us believe we can achieve whatever our dream might be.
Keep running the fast cars, you will be never out of girls

Interesting film. As you can see, the car was so badly mangled it could not be determined what had caused it to leave the road. When he passed the pits, Clark pointed to the left rear. Suspension, tire? We will never know. He was killed however, by a tree that stood just off the tarmac where it should never have been. Then car slid sideways into it at 150+ mph; striking it flush with the cockpit. Clark never had a chance. I cannot tell you how broken up I was. I was in high school and heard the news at lunch. I do not remember my afternoon classes. It was an effing Formula 2 race. Can you imagine Merc asking Hamilton to run in GP2? If you never saw him race you cannot understand how good he was. At Indy one year he spun 4 times without hitting the wall and still finished 2ND. He holds the record for F1 grand Slams, Pole, fastest lap, lead every lap and win. In 1963 he lead 71% of the laps for the season! Also a record. Maybe Hammy has passed him in the last few seasons, I'm not sure. He was modest and a gentleman which few, few drivers today can say. He was and is my hero. RIP.

I was 14 and in junior high school. 'Remember the day well. My sister called to me from a window as I was playing in the front yard.
'Curious...what country are you in that has school on Palm Sunday?  :DntKnw:

I'm in the USA. In those days, even with a driver of Clark's renown, it didn't make the news. A friend of mine saw it in the newspaper Monday morning and told me at lunch.

I was in 8th grade. I still remember hearing Jim McKay report it on ABC Wide World of Sports. Just McKay telling what they knew with some stock pictures of Jimmy. They didn't have many details. Hearing about a driver being killed wasn't all that unusual back then, but I couldn't believe it could happen to him. Jim Clark was different. No car or track could ever get the better of him. The fact that it was in an F2 race made it even more unbelievable.

I remember seeing it Monday's newspaper. Clark probably had more to
do with youngsters following F1 than anything. When he came to Indy I was hooked
