Mercedes could suspend drivers
« on: July 08, 2016, 05:05:55 AM »
Is this the final threat or are there final final threats? Would Mercedes suspend a driver or even both drivers?
Nico is even saying that he still disagrees with the stewards and just about every commentator where quite a few are ex-drivers and cannot see he was in the wrong.
If he had run Lewis out of road on the exit to the corner he may have had an argument but to do it on the way in is schoolboy karting stuff so what's the chances of the season ending without further sanction?
It surely has not come at a good time for Nico in the middle of contract negotiations which it has to affect even if Gerhard Berger said it won't.

Interesting times ahead.

Sounds like they also have a communications problem.  Although Niki has never been a guy to mince his words, Mercedes has issued a retraction for Niki's televised comments about Lewis last week.  Pretty black and white, so I'm not so sure what was the point of the retraction was...either it's a blatant lie, or Niki's earlier claims were - should we really care which?  Why is Niki even still with Mercedes?  He won't wear a stitch of branded clothing (in retrospect, maybe that was a good idea), and based on his typical statements which are often contradicted by Wolff, he can't be much value as a consultant.

Maybe the next Mercedes press release will be:

"The opinions expressed by Herr Lauda do not reflect the views of the Mercedes team, the Mercedes corporation or anybody else who doesn't live in Lauda La-la Land."

I wonder they will actually suspend a driver or both of them, at this point of the stage, where suspending them will open up possibilities of Vettel, Ricardo, Max stealing the wins, which I believe Toto will never let it happen. So it is just for the sake of saying. No real weight onto the story.

According to the interview with Toto yes he would suspend one of them if they continue in the same way.
To be seen to be believed!

I think its the way Toto is trying to keep the image that he is at the helm.

Totally agree.  Toto beats his chest a lot, but no bite if you ask me.  His drivers have been beyond his control for at least two seasons now.

I wonder if, in the future, Hamilton/Rosberg @ Mercedes will be looked at the same way we now look back to Prost/Senna @ McLaren.

Probably media will try to picture it that way, because those where the fervent, intoxicating time, but truth be told comparing Rosberg with Prost will be an insult to this great driver. I am a SennaManiac, but I have the upmost respect for Prost, because he was brilliant. He didn't squeak like Rosberg in pressure, in fact he thrived in Senna's challenge. They were team-mates for 2 season, but it still reverberates among those who lived it, and like me who caught the fever afterwards.
