Kimi Signs with Ferarri for 2017
« on: July 08, 2016, 02:10:26 PM »
At the start of their coverage of FP2 from Silverstone, NBC announced that Ferrari has re-signed Kimi Raikkonen for the 2017 season. I'm glad to see him stay but I'm surprised that the deal was done this early in the season.

Glad to hear it!  Nico won't be able to use that rumour anymore while he desperately tries to hold onto his race seat.

I bet Vettel had a little to do with this.At this stage
in Kimi's career I think he's just happy to have a seat in
a top team. All the others wouldn't want to at second fiddle
to Seb.Come to think about it Lewis and Ros may have made
Ferrari think we don't need that crap from our drivers

Ferrari does not have the winning car at the moment. If they had a car like Mercedes, and Kimi knew the only thing between a championship and him is a German bloke, I wonder the relation would have been as amicable as it is now. I enjoy Hamilton-Rosberg rivalry, what I don't like is that their inability to keep themselves away from that alluring self-destruction switch. When did F1 last seen this much fierce rivalry between team-mates regarding championship. You will have to go pretty long back to find one.

The latest rumour is they signed Kimi for 2017 as for 2018 Lewis is available now that would rock Seb's boat!

I don't put much weight to that until we see how the 17 engine formula shakes out.

I am surprised at how early the deal has been announced too.  I am less surprised by the decision, as Raikkonen has performed better this year at Ferrari than the previous two.  I am also sure that Vettel would have supported Raikkonen being retained, since he is one of the few drivers Vettel actually gets on with, and he knows that he's going to be faster than him most of the time too.
